Cairo, 15 up to 22 September 2014, Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt, Komjen Polisi (Purn.) Drs. Nurfaizi Suwandi, MM officially opened Yalla Indonesia 2014 at the JW Marriott Hotel Cairo Egypt. Yalla Indonesia includes Trade Expo 2014, Indonesian Higher Education Expo (IHEE) and Workshop Culinary Bazaar, an exhibition that was held to commemorate 69th independence anniversary day of Republic of Indonesia. Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Cairo Egypt in collaboration with Directorate of Institutions and Coollaboration Affairs, Directorate General of Higher Education held by Ministry of Education and Culture Indonesia.
Yalla Indonesia means Lets Go Indonesia in Egyptian language. This event is a promotional event of trade, culture and higher education in Indonesia. According to the former Kapolda Metro Jaya, Egypt was the center of civilization of the Middle East. Indonesia are now developing into a center of Asian civilization. Hopefully, this event can unify perception and establishing a closer relationship between the two countries. Former Kepala Badan Narkotika Nasional (BNN) is also hope people of Indonesia are not only studying religion in Egypt, but also in other areas. Such as medicine since thousands of years ago, Egypt has become the center of world civilization. Proved that the community has built since ancient Egypt pyramids and preserve bodies (mummies).
Al-Azhar University in Cairo at least provide scholarships Rp. 23 billion to the people of Indonesia, said Ambassador Nurfaizi. As the country has grown, he hoped that Indonesia also provides scholarships to Egyptian society. This has become one of the points discussed in the Joint Working Group on Higher Education (JWGHE) between Indonesia and Egypt dated 18 September 2014 at the Four Seasons at Nile Plaza Cairo. In the JWG, the Rector or President of 16 private/state universities in Indonesia and Egypt head to head to discuss the various possibilities of cooperation, including the scholarship commitment and aggrement. He hopes confident Indonesia could become the destination of Egyptian society to pursue higher education.
According to Ambassador Nurfaizi, language is still a major obstacle for Egyptian community college in Indonesia. For them, six months is too long if only to learn the language course, said the Ambassador. To overcome this problem, Indonesian Department has opened at the Suez Canal University and Cairo University. One of the visitors to the exhibition, Saro Yasri interested to study communication in Indonesia. The development of the media industry in Indonesia has become a magnet for foreign students to study in Indonesia. While other visitors, Mustafa expressed interest to study English Literature in Indonesia. Tuition in Indonesia is not too expensive, said Mustafa. At least, there are 16 private/state universities who participated in this event. among others, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Surabaya, University Bhayangkara (UBHARA) Surabaya, Jakarta State University (UNJ), Yogyakarta State University (UNY), Padjadjaran University (UNPAD) Bandung, Syiah Kuala University (UNSYIAH) Banda Aceh, University Tadulako (UNTAD) Palu, Indonesian Education University (UPI) Bandung, Jakarta State Polytechnic (PNJ), Pontianak State Polytechnic (POLNEP), State Islamic University (UIN) Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, Padang State University (UNP), Muhammadiyah University (UM) Palembang, Muhammadiyah University (UM) Surakarta, Telkom University Bandung, Indonesia Computer University (UNIKOM) Bandung. Of the 16 private/state universities, UBHARA Surabaya including between 11 universities which participating in IHEE Expo 2014 on grants from Directorate of Institutions and Coollaboration Affairs, Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture Republic of Indonesia. While other universities participating in the exhibition by self expense. Delegates of IHEE 2014 event from UBHARA Surabaya Amirullah, ST, MT, (Head of Cooperation Office-Domestic and International Section) and Murry Darmoko Moersidin, SHI, MA (Faculty of Law). Two representatives are joined by exhibitors from other 11 private/state universities and delegates from Directorate of Institutions and Coollaboration Affairs, Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture Republic of Indonesia with the total number of group members amounted to 38 people (Mir-Lks).
